The mission of the Ronin Institute is to decouple the pursuit of rigorous, high-quality scholarship from dependence on traditional institutional affiliation. We provide a supportive, non-hierarchical academic home for researchers and intellectuals across all disciplines who operate outside of conventional employment structures. We aim to validate and promote the work of independent scholars by offering professional title recognition, facilitating community, and creating the necessary infrastructure for self-directed research to thrive globally.

We strive to become the preeminent model for post-institutional academic collaboration, demonstrating that intellectual freedom and administrative agility can lead to research excellence and significant societal contributions.

A Note on Organizational Structure

The Ronin Institute is currently an agile and robust international intellectual collective. While scholars operate with the full functional capacity and professional standards of an academic institution, we are presently not an incorporated legal entity. This deliberate approach allows us the flexibility to rigorously test and evaluate various governance models to determine the optimal structure that best serves the unique needs and long-term sustainability of the independent scholar community. We are actively engaged in exploring incorporation options to secure the most beneficial and enduring organizational framework for our future.

The name Ronin Institute for Independent Scholarhip has been a de facto Trademark  used by Ronin  Scholars since 2012
